The start of the French Grand Prix at Paul-Ricard was eventful. Esteban Ocon (Force India) and Pierre Gasly (Toro Rosso) gave up after a collision in the first turns. Sebastian Vettel (Ferrari) hit Valtteri Bottas (Mercedes) at the first braking. The German changed his front wing in the pits and the Finn returned to the pits to repair his flat left front tire.
The safety car was dispatched. Lewis Hamilton (Mercedes) leads the race in front Max Verstappen (Red Bull) and the surprising Carlos Sainz Jr on his Renault. Charles Leclerc (Haas) avoided the pitfalls to move into 6th. Romain Grosjean (Haas) is 8th.
