If at the start of the season Williams was clearly behind Force India, the trend was reversed in June, and the arrival of the Formula 1 in Europe. Little by little, Sir Frank's team caught up with the Indian team, reducing the gap to three small points before the last two rounds of the season. The British firm's stated aim is therefore clearly to steal seventh place in the Manufacturers' standings from Vijay Mallya's team.

“Our goal for this race is clear: To qualify both cars in the Top 10, and improve our position in the manufacturers’ standings”
, said Technical Director Sam Michael.

Tied on points with Adrian Sutil, Rubens Barrichello also has the opportunity, at home, to take 10th place in the provisional Drivers' general classification.
