The 2020 World Championship calendar could well see the Dutch route of Zandvoort join the F1 Circus. An increasingly possible return for the legendary Batavian track, which had hosted the discipline since the 50s before seeing F1 leave the shores of the North Sea in the mid-80s.

Asked about this potential “new” destination, the current generation says they are rather enthusiastic about the idea of returning to a circuit where many of them have played in the junior categories, particularly in F3.

“Zandvoort is probably one of my five favorite circuits, admits George Russell, resident of Williams. I think it's a really incredible circuit, it has so much character. Of course, safety is extremely important in Formula 1, but I really hope they don't remove the Zandvoort gravel traps in the two high-speed corners.

This is what makes the circuit so intimidating and incredible. As I said, it would be a shame to lose Barcelona, but I would also be very happy to race at Zandvoort. »
