On his Instagram account, Ben Barnicoat who was the factory driver communicated his decision to leave the British team after five seasons. Former British Formula 4 champion with Fortec Motorsport, he then made his debut in endurance, more precisely in European Le Mans Series in 2019 with Carlin. Aged 24, he has not yet communicated about his future and which team he will head to in 2022.

“It is with a heavy heart that I announce that after 5 years, I have decided to leave McLaren as a factory driver, can we read on his Instagram post. McLaren has not only played a huge role in my career, but also in my life. By joining the young pilot program of Formula 1 at the age of 13, then moving to the GT team at 20, this brand made me the individual and driver I am today. I will always be grateful, also to those I have had the chance to work with throughout my career, to all the team personnel in F1, to the factory development team and to all our independent racing teams, it was an absolute pleasure.

The time has come for me to move on and take on a new and extremely exciting challenge. I can’t wait to share it with you all.”
