Two new dates will be added to the next 2022 WTCR calendar

Officially, the Ring of the Rhine is the final stop on the 2022 WTCR calendar since the cancellation of the Asian tour. The grid drivers were scheduled to travel to China, Macau and South Korea. But because of Covid-19, the organizers were forced to cancel these three rounds. So to compensate for this loss, two new dates should be made official next week. “ A few days ago we submitted to the FIA the revised calendar to replace the Asian tour which will be replaced by 2 events. This has already been approved by the Touring Car Commission and shared with the teams to prepare. It will be subject to approval by the World Motor Sport Council, as is the normal FIA approval process. I will therefore be very happy to communicate this revised calendar during the next week after the approval of the World Motor Sport Council », explains Jean-Baptiste Ley, director of the WTCR.

Despite Lynk & Co's decision to end its involvement in WTCR, the next calendar is already being considered. “ We have already started work on the 2023 season with a suitable calendar that returns to the expected WTCR standard with a wide range of events on a global basis. », underlines Jean-Baptiste Ley. Before looking ahead to the next season, the WTCR must first focus on the next round underway at the Ring of the Rhine without the 5 Lynk & Co cars.
