Hungaroring – Race 1: Azcona wins ahead of Ehrlacher and Berthon

After the disastrous WTCR weekend in Germany, all eyes were on the Goodyear tires in Hungary. For the first race of the weekend, the problems seem to have been corrected and it was Mikel Azcona who took advantage for the first race of the weekend at the Hungaroring. Starting from pole position, the Spaniard managed to keep the lead of the race until the end of the 1 laps. Behind, the battle for second place was played out between two Tricolores. While Nathanael Berthon long thought he would be able to keep his position, Yann Ehrlacher came to surprise him in the final laps to overtake the Audi RS17.

Note that the track marshals had a lot of work during Race 1 with numerous black and white flags for crossing the track limits. Disappointment for the Honda, big loser of Race 1 with Nestor Girolami 7th and Esteban Guerrieri 9th. Both cars were never really on the pace and couldn't aim higher. With this victory, Mikel Azcona regains the leadership position in the championship ahead of Nestor Girolami before race 2 which will start at 16:30 p.m.
