Jack Aitken wins a spectacular race 2

No doubt, this second race of DTM on the road race of the Lausitzring triovale was one of the most impressive races since the advent of GT3 in Germany! The start of the race was once again very competitive with a virile battle between Marco Wittmann (BMW M4 GT3- Schubert Motorsport) and Thomas Preining (Porsche 911 GT3 R- Manthey EMA). The two men touched several times, forcing the 2023 champion to cut into the grass before rejoining the track. In the lead, no problem for poleman Jack Aitken (Emile Frey Racing) who took the best start and took advantage of Wittman's setbacks to move into the leader's seat with Wittman's M4 still in 2nd. Lucas Auer (Mercedes AMG GT3- Team Landgraf) then tried his luck on the green BMW, which didn't give up in the face of the Austrian's attack. Auer left the track and fell just outside the top 5 in the standings.

Jules Gounon puts on the show

The Mercedes AMG driver (Winward Racing) started in 13th position on the starting grid. Jules struggled in the early laps, focusing on implementing the strategy established with his team. Diligent and opportunistic, he was on the verge of the top 10 at the time of the first round of refueling. With his new tires on, Gounon gave chase and his rivals began to fall one after the other. He had moved up to 4th position at the time of the second mandatory stop. He was 6th when he left the pits, and luck then gave him a little boost. With 3 laps to go, he took advantage of a moment of hesitation by Maro Engel (Mercedes AMG GT3- Winward Racing) and Jordan Pepper (Lamborghini Huracan GT3- Grasser Racing Team) to climb onto the podium. The frantic race of Michelle Gatting's companion continues as he manages to catch up with the leaders of the race: Jack Aitken and René Rast. The Briton reclaimed the lead on the penultimate lap of the race. René Rast, in serious trouble with his tires, manages to contain the Franco-Andorran behind his blue M4, holding on to second place on the podium by 45 thousandths of a second. The other big performance of the race was by Mirko Bortolotti, the 2024 champion, who climbed from 20th to 6th place in the race. The Italian driver from ABT Sportsline has not yet reached his full potential at the wheel of his Huracan GT3.

Jack Aitken won the second race of the weekend ahead of Rast and Gounon. In the DTM standings, Lucas Auer retains the lead, but by just 6 points, ahead of Jules Gounon, who seems to have settled into the illustrious German GT championship. The next round is scheduled for Zandvoort (Netherlands) on June 7 and 8.
