Australian Supercars driver Tim Slade set a new lap record on Sunday May 15 on the Phillip Island circuit (Australia). Aboard a Brabham BT62, it took him just 1:24 to complete a lap of the 0607 km track, mainly famous for its Australian Grand Prix in MotoGP :
“We were only allowed one attempt, explained Tim Slade. The track conditions were unknown as the wind was getting stronger and stronger. It wasn't a perfect ride, but it was a lot of fun. It’s nice when a plan comes together and comes true. »
The Brabham is equipped with an original Ford naturally aspirated V8 developing 691 horsepower for a total weight of 972 kg. Tim Slade hit the switch on the main straight at 287 km/h.
The previous record was held by Simon Wills with a Reynad 94D Formula Holden in 2000 (1’24”221).
