Austin Dillon (Richard Childress Racing) won the AAA Texas 500 pole by completing the 1,5-mile oval in 28. Joey Logano (Team Penske) is the best placed of the Chasers by completing the first row six thousandths behind the reference. The driver of the No. 081 Ford preceded the No. 2 Chevrolet of Kevin Harvick (Stewart-Haas Racing).
If Joe Gibbs Racing drivers Matt Kenseth and Carl Edwards as well as Kurt Busch (Stewart-Haas Racing) finished in the top ten, other Chasers are further back. Danny Hamlin (Joe Gibbs Racing) is 17th and his teammate Kyle Busch 24th. Jimmie Johnson (Hendrick Motorsports) is in 19th place, but the six-time champion is qualified for the final at Homestead-Miami (Florida) on November 20.
