Dale Earnhardt Jr (Hendrick Motorsports) took pole position for the Coke Zero 400, contested on the oval of Daytona (Florida). The driver of the No. 88 Chevrolet SS inherited first place on the starting grid after the session was canceled following bad weather conditions. It is on the basis of the times achieved during the first free practice session, which was held last Friday, that the officials of the NASCAR established the starting positions.
