Martin Truex Jr (Furniture Row Racing) set the best time in free practice at Talladega with a lap of 47”708 in his #78 Chevrolet during the first session. Justin Allgaier (Hscott Motorsports) was the closest, failing 13 thousandths ahead of David Ragan (Front Row Motorsports) and Marcos Ambrose (Richard Petty Motorsports). Trevor Bayne (Wood Brothers Racing) was fastest in the second session with a time of 48.
