Kevin Harvick (Stewart-Haas Racing) won his first pole of the season by winning qualifying for the Bank of America 500 held at Charlotte Motor Speedway (North Carolina). The 2014 champion of the Nascar Sprint Cup was four thousandths ahead of Alex Bowman (Hendrick Motorsports), Dale Earnhardt Jr's replacement, while Chase Elliott (Hendrick Motorsports) placed a third Chevrolet in the top three.
Kyle Busch (Joe Gibbs Racing) completed the second row ahead of Tony Stewart (Stewart-Haas Racing) and AJ Alllmendinger (JTG Daugherty Racing).
