Matt Kenseth and Kyle Busch (Joe Gibbs Racing) were sanctioned following the Bristol (Tennessee) event for failing pre-race inspection several times. As a result, the two drivers were deprived of fifteen minutes of driving time at the Darlington (South Carolina) tests (September 4-6).
