The announcement of a five-person lockdown by the State of Victoria on February 12, and the possibility of seeing it extended, had forced the organizers of GTWC Australia to postpone the start of the season and thus cancel the opening round scheduled at Phillip Island from February 20 to 21.

As a result, the start of the season was rescheduled from April 2 to 4 in Bathurst but ultimately the organizers were able to find a new date for the initial opening round.

After discussions, the latter was repositioned for the weekend of February 12-14, still on the Phillip Island side. This date will therefore mark the debut of the GT World Challenge, Australian version.
