The French driver of the team Schumacher CLRT crossed the finish line first in his Porsche 911 GT3 Cup after 15 laps, ahead of Dutchman Robert de Haan and his compatriot Marvin Klein. Flynt Schuring, who started from pole position, had to settle for fifth place, although he also took the rookie honours. Porsche Junior Theo Oeverhaus retained the overall lead thanks to his ninth place.
Thanks to his first victory of the season, Alessandro Ghiretti is fully back in the title race. The 23-year-old Frenchman dominated the Catalan race, overtaking his teammate Flynt Schuring shortly after the start. "Early in the race, I was able to take advantage of the battles behind me to open up a small gap," explained Ghiretti. "This allowed me to manage my tires and find the right pace. By the end of the race, I was able to gradually increase my lead and go for this victory."
This victory allows Ghiretti to leapfrog the overall standings, where he climbs to second place, just 9,5 points behind German Theo Oeverhaus. Starting 13th, the latter limited the damage by finishing ninth: "I made the most of my poor starting position," said the 20-year-old driver. "There were a lot of tough duels. The problem is that when you're following another car, you suffer from understeer, which wears out the front tires a lot. As a result, I was stuck behind Alex Tauscher the entire race. We'll now do everything we can to optimize the next rounds."
The other two podium places were taken by BWT Lechner Racing drivers Robert de Haan and Marvin Klein. "It's an excellent result for the team," said a delighted de Haan, winner in Monaco. "I'm happy, even though I lacked pace at the end of the race. We'll have to analyze that. But this result counts for the championship, especially after my retirement in the first race." Klein scored his first points of the season: "I got off to a good start and gained two positions. Then I tried to attack my teammate, but without success. After my two retirements, this result feels good. We'll take each race one at a time from now on."
Behind Huub van Eijndhoven, fourth and also fourth overall, Flynt Schuring finished fifth and best rookie. "When you start on pole, you obviously hope for better," admitted the Dutchman, also a Schumacher CLRT driver. "My start wasn't ideal and I was a bit too optimistic when braking for the first corner. But I want to take the positives: I scored big points and I was fast all weekend. We'll build on that." Schuring currently sits sixth in the overall standings.
Oliver Schwab, Project Director of the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup, gave a positive assessment of the weekend in Barcelona: "Today's race had everything that makes the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup so special: a dense and competitive field, fierce but fair battles, and fascinating cars. A big congratulations to our Junior Alessandro Ghiretti for his controlled performance. The gap at the top of the championship is closing, which promises a lot of action ahead. And of course, we are pleased that all the cars finished safely."
The fourth round of the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup 2025 will take place on June 29, as a curtain-raiser to the Austrian Grand Prix, on the Red Bull Ring near Spielberg.
