Kelvin van der Linde and Charles Weerts gave Team WRT its first victory of the season in the Sprint Cup GT World Challenge Europe this Sunday at Zandvoort. Thanks to a lightning-fast 48,2-second pit stop, their No. 4 BMW M3 GT32 EVO took the lead midway through the race to win by more than 12 seconds over the No. 26 Saintéloc Audi of Ivan Klymenko and Lorens Lecertua, also Silver Cup winners.
Third at the finish, Luca Engstler and Jordan Pepper (Lamborghini GRT) took advantage of the penalties imposed on the two Ferrari Emil Frey, who were nevertheless well on their way. The Goethe/Kirchhoefer duo (McLaren Garage 59) finished fourth, ahead of Saturday's winners, Niederhauser and Mueller (Audi Saintéloc). The Gold Cup victory went to Thierry Vermeulen and Chris Lulham (Ferrari Emil Frey), while the Bronze Cup was won by Dennis Marschall and Dustin Blattner (Ferrari Kessel).
Race 1: Rutronik in force from Saturday
The day before, it was the duo Patric Niederhauser – Sven Müller who won the first race with the Porsche Rutronik Racing's No. 96 Audi, delivering an impeccable performance despite a 41-car grid. Saintéloc's No. 25 Audi won the Gold Cup (P4 overall), while the No. 32 WRT BMW, which started 19th, climbed to fifth place. The Silver Cup was won by Alex Aka and Ezequeil Perez Companc (Audi Tresor Attempto), while Lionspeed won the Bronze Cup with its No. 89 Porsche for its first appearance in the Sprint Cup.
