Chevrolet Europe Motorsport has officially lodged a complaint against the decision of the FIA sporting stewards to authorize the BMW 320si to run with six-speed sequential gearboxes. Last weekend, in Okayama, Augusto Farfus and Andy Priaulx had indeed benefited from this gearbox allowing them a gain of 30 kg in terms of the minimum weight of the car (read the full story of the affair in AUTOhebdo n °1777, p. 57), a possibility allowed by the FIA since the exemption obtained by Alessandro Zanardi, driver deprived of both legs and who competed in the WTCC until 2009.

If BMW did not dominate the Okayama races as the qualifications suggested, if Chevrolet wants to obtain world titles on the track, the legality of changing from a 5-speed H-shift gearbox to a 6-speed shift gearbox sequential will soon be debated. “ We hope to be heard next Friday in Paris », Confides Eric Nève, boss of Chevrolet Europe Motorsport, to Autosport.
