This season, the Japanese round of the WTCC no longer stops at Okayama, as has been the case since 2008, but at Suzuka. Like Spa, the 5,8 kilometer circuit is ideal for single-seaters or GT cars thanks to the endless straights at full load, but is less suitable for sedans in the World Touring Championship. Thus the competitors will use a shortened route, with a length of 2,2 kilometers, which will allow races of 23 laps to be held for an unchanged regulatory distance of 50 kilometers.
