Last year's winner and pole sitter this year, Álex Palou was among the key figures in the 110th running of the Indianapolis 500, leading 59 laps – the most in the race's history. The Spaniard lost some ground towards the end of the race, when different strategies converged following a caution period, and during the two restarts that marked the end of the race, before ultimately finishing seventh.
After the race, the traditional inspections of theIndyCar It was revealed that the front wing endplates of Palou's No. 10 Dallara-Honda did not meet the height specifications prescribed by the regulations. However, officials later determined that the front wing's non-compliance was the result of an assembly error, not an intentional modification. Therefore, Álex Palou retains his seventh-place finish in the Indy 500, along with the associated prize money, but loses five championship points. His team is fined $10,000 (€8,600).
Last year, Callum Ilott, then a driver for Prema Racing, was caught for the same infraction, but he was disqualified from the event.
