Beaten by Maya Weug in qualifying, the reigning vice-champion surprised her rival from the first corner of the second race of the weekend to win.

Doriane Pin and the tire compromise in qualifying

« I am very happy about this weekend in Shanghai, rejoices Doriane Pin. We decided to compromise in qualifying, using only one set of tires, but we still finished second after a decent session overall. In Race 1, we kept the set of tires used in qualifying and the pace was generally good despite a small drop at the end. We gained two positions.

“Then in race 2 we maximized everything we could, adds Doriane Pin. We got off to a great start with an outside pass at the first corner. I knew it was essential to be smart at the start to finish the race in the lead. I'm very happy with how the team worked and the strength we showed together, and I'm excited to start the season this way. »

Fourth in the first race of the Chinese weekend, contested in a reverse grid format, the protégé of Mercedes leads the championship with 31 points, that is, five points ahead of Maya Weug, and seven ahead of Chloe Chambers.

The next meeting for the F1 Academy will take place from April 18 to 20 in Jeddah (Saudi Arabia).
