Italian domination. For this first outing of the year, we must recognize that the Italians were the best. With two of its four representatives placed among the favorites, the Boot came away with the two pole positions at stake for the weekend thanks to Gabriele Mini (Hitech GP) and Andrea Kimi Antonelli (Mumbai Falcon).

It was Gabriele Mini who struck first. Present in the Emirates to prepare for its season of F3 with the English team, the Transalpine won the showdown against his compatriot during Q1. At the wheel of a Tatuus T-318 that he already knows very well, the Hitech GP driver completed his best run in 1'54"669, the only one under 1'55. For his first FRMEC meeting, Andrea Kimi Antonelli showed very good things since he ranked 2e 0 behind his counterpart before taking pole position for Race 423 during Q3.

Q1 ranking

After making his mark in Q1, the protégé of Mercedes pulled out all the stops in the second part of qualifying to do better than Gabriele Mini a few moments earlier. Very comfortable on the Dubai circuit, Andrea Kimi Antonelli set the bar very high with a lap in 1'54"046 ahead of Mari Boya (Hyderabad Blackbirds) and Tasanapol Inthraphuvasak (Pinnacle VAR). Mini finished 5e at just under half a second.

Q2 ranking

Tenth in Q1, Nikita Bedrin (PHM Racing) will start from pole position for Race 2 this Saturday. The only Frenchman involved in FRMEC, Sami Meguetounif (Hyderabad Blackbirds) signed the 6e and 16e times respectively.
