Much of the difference was made in the pits during this main race in Formula 2. As in Bahrain, Alex Dunne ultimately won with a comfortable lead over his closest rival, Luke Browning. With both men starting from 5th and 7th positions on the grid respectively, the strategy deployed proved to be successful.

On the 7th lap of the race, Alex Dunne stopped after a quick stint on the softer tires, while Browning chose to enter the pits a lap later. Arvid Lindblad (Campos) and Leonardo Fornaroli (Invicta), deciding to make their stop at the same time as the Irishman, were overtaken in the pit lane, and suffered greatly from this incident thereafter.

4th and 5th at the finish, the two drivers nevertheless had a full race and benefited from an effective strategy, unlike the drivers caught out by the events of the second half of the race. On lap 14, Rafael Villagómez (VAR) went off in the gravel, causing the safety car to come out. At that point, the top six in the race had not yet stopped, still on ultra-soft tires. Thus, Joshua Durksen (AIX), Josep Maria Marti (Campos), and Roman Stanek (Invicta), then in a good position, were unable to get into the points zone.

Martins victim of a stall

Second and third on the grid, Sebastian Montoya (Prema) and Victor Martins (ART) suffered the same fate that Sami Meguetounif (Trident) had already experienced the day before. Before the start of the formation lap, Montoya stalled on the grid, causing the Colombian to have to start from the pit lane. Worse still, at the start of the race, just moments after this initial unfortunate incident, Victor Martins fell victim to the same situation. The Frenchman started last and finished 12th, a fate he will regret given his phenomenal pace from the back of the field. Unlucky the day before, Sami Meguetounif scored his first point of the season by finishing 10th.
