Scott Dixon (Chip Ganassi Racing) was the fastest in the Open Test held at the Auto Club Speedway in Fontana (California). The reigning champion, winner of the last event in Sonoma (California), achieved a time of 32 on the 8075-mile (2km) oval. Juan-Pablo Montoya (Team Penske) and Ed Carpenter (Ed Carpenter Racing) were the closest with half a tenth behind. Among the contenders for the title, Helio Castroneves (Team Penske) is best placed with his fourth time, while his teammate Will Power ranks ninth. simon pagenaud (SPM) is only 16th, more than three tenths behind the reference time. His compatriot Sébastien Bourdais (KVSH Racing) is second to last.
