Tony Kanaan (Chip Ganassi Racing) set the best time in the first free practice session at Pocono Raceway. The Brazilian set a time of 40 to beat Ryan Hunter-Reay by eight hundredths. The Andretti drivers are at the forefront with Marco Andretti following a tenth just ahead of James Hinchcliffe. Takuma Sato (AJ Foyt Entreprises) completes the top five ahead of Juan-Pablo Montoya (Team Penske). simon pagenaud (Schmidt Peterson Motorsports) is in seventh place, two tenths behind the reference time ahead of his teammate Mikhail Aleshin. Championship leader Will Power (Team Penske) ranks ninth. Sebastian Bourdais (KVSH Racing) is further behind with the 17th fastest time, six tenths.
