Seven drivers broke the record set by Will Power (Team Penske) in 2015 during qualifying for the Chevrolet Dual in Detroit (Michigan) during the first practice session ofIndyCar in Bell Isle.

It was precisely the 2014 champion who set the reference time in 1'15''0197, ahead by half a second. Helio Castroneves (Team Penske). Scott Dixon (Chip Ganassi Racing) followed seven tenths ahead of simon pagenaud (Team Penske).

Helio Castorneves (Schmidt Peterson Motorsports) is the last driver less than a second from the benchmark. Graham Rahal (RLL Racing) preceded Sébastien Bourdais (KVSH Racing) in seventh position.
