Sebastian Saavedra, teammate of Sébastien Bourdais at KV Racing, took pole position for the Indianapolis Grand Prix in the rain. He took advantage of the error of Ryan Hunter-Reay (Andretti) who had set the best time, but went out in the last corner resulting in a red flag. An interruption synonymous with the loss of his best time to the benefit of Saavedra.

Jack Hawksworth (Bryan Herta Autosport) will start on the front row alongside the pole-sitter and ahead of the unfortunate Hunter-Reay. simon pagenaud, who had set the best time in FP3 in the rain, took 4th place with his Schmidt Peterson Motorsports DW12. He is ahead of championship leader Will Power (Penske) and 2013 champion Scott Dixon (Ganassi).
