Juan Pablo Montoya returns with McLaren for the Indianapolis 500

It's a love story that has lasted for years. And for the second year in a row, a double winner of the Indianapolis 500, in the person of Juan Pablo Montoya, and McLaren, will join forces during the month of May in Indycar. Indeed, the two parties have agreed to race together on two important dates on the calendar: the Grand Prix of Indianapolis as well as the 500 Miles, a fortnight later. The team officially announced it this Thursday.

Montoya will join McLaren drivers Pato O'Ward (Mexico) and Felix Rosenqvist (Sweden), who already started with the team last year. The Colombian returns to the team with which he raced for two years in F1 (2005 and 2006), before winning twice during his six participations in the Indianapolis 500 – a victory as a rookie in 2000 and another in 2015. Last year, Montoya finished ninth in the event, a few seconds from the surprise winner Helio Castroneves, also aged 46.

“I am excited to return to Indianapolis with Arrow McLaren SP and Mission, to once again compete in a race that holds a special place in my heart – the Indianapolis 500, details Juan Pablo Montoya in the team's press release. I had a great experience with the team last year and look forward to continuing the progress we made in 2021. I think we have a real chance to compete at the front of the pack and compete fight for victory. »

The Indianapolis Grand Prix will take place on May 14, 2022 on the Motor Speedway Road Course while the Indianapolis will take place as usual, two weeks later, on May 29, 2022.
