Like Andretti, Prema was fined $25 and the No. 000 lost ten points in the owners' championship. This means that Robert Shwartzman keeps his points total in the drivers' championship, but that in the standings that determine the Leaders Circle, the car he drives moves down. This is during an investigation by theIndyCar following the fire he suffered during the first free practice session at Thermal, that the championship discovered the infringement.
The cable used to activate the onboard fire extinguisher was, according to IndyCar, replaced with another cable, supplied by an unapproved company. This cable did not work and therefore the fire extinguisher did not activate in the car Shwartzman, which may have explained the extent of the damage following the fire. The team spent the entire night and early morning on Saturday rebuilding a chassis for the Tel Aviv native, who was able to take part in the second round of the season.
The team has the opportunity to appeal before the next round on April 13 in Long Beach, California.
