Indy Lights changes name and tire manufacturer

Stop calling it Indy Lights, now make way for Indy NXT! The anteroom of theIndyCar, which propelled names like Josef Newgarden and Colton Herta into the premier category in the United States, is changing its name. Indy NXT (pronounced Indy Next) is a new step in the evolution of the American promotional formula. At the start of 2022, IndyCar owner Penske Entertainment took over management of the series from Road to Indy promoter Andersen Promotions. The points scale had been modified to match that used in IndyCar.

In addition to the name change, the Indy NXT Championship will change tire suppliers. Cooper Tires will give way to Firestone, sole manufacturer of IndyCar. The Nashville brand also becomes the main sponsor of the championship. “Indy NXT by Firestone will continue to develop and graduate new generations of racers ready to engage in breathtaking, high-stakes competitions”, said Jay Frye, president of IndyCar.

The 2023 Indy NXT schedule:

St Petersburg - March 5
Barber - April 30
Indianapolis Road Course - May 12 and 13
Detroit – June 3 and 4
Road America – June 18
Mid-Ohio - July 2
Iowa - July 22
Nashville - August 6
Gateway - August 27
Portland – September 3
Laguna Seca – September 9 and 10
