He was among the favorites at the start of the season, but clearly overdid it at the start of this first race. Polesitter this Saturday morning, Freddie Slater (Prema) didn't get off to the best start ahead of De Palo, and quickly became more aggressive in defending his position. Sliding past the first corner, the Briton made a mistake and was forced to retire on the first lap, especially with Jin Nakamura (R-Race GP) at the back. The Japanese driver also received a four-place grid penalty for Sunday's race.
At the front, Italian Matteo De Palo took advantage of this mistake to lead the race from start to finish. Starting behind Slater, the Trident rider managed to create a gap of more than two seconds on his pursuer after just a few laps, thus securing his first place.
His pursuer, Evan Giltaire, had a tough time. Closely followed and then attacked on the final lap by the Emirati rider Rashid Al Dhaheri, the Frenchman had to defend his position with panache to hold on to his precious second place, albeit with difficulty.
Further back, the other Frenchmen also had the opportunity to distinguish themselves in interesting battles. Enzo Deligny (R-Race GP) finished his race in the top 10, while Enzo Peugeot made a daring overtake from the inside on the Chinese Ruiqi Liu. The French driver finished 13th.
