All seven episodes will be available on Netflix on May 28. F1: THE ACADEMY is intended to be a documentary series in the same vein as Drive to Survive, which has been broadcast on the platform since 2019. The first season was produced by American actress Reese Whitherspoon, and will highlight the 2024 season, which saw the title of Abbi Pulling, and the highly acclaimed debut of Dorian Pin.
The series' goal is to showcase all-female racing, just as Drive to Survive did for Formula 100 a few years ago. FOM is banking heavily on the F1 Academy championship in its quest for a new female driver in Formula 1 in the coming years. You have to go back to 1 to find a female driver involved beyond the free practice sessions of a Formula 1992 weekend. Italian Giovanna Amati drove for Brabham, before being replaced by future world champion Damon Hill.
