This is the end of a long series for Tomoki Nojiri. After having signed 4 consecutive pole positions, the Team Mugen driver was beaten by Yuhi Sekiguchi (Carenex Team Impul) on the Fuji circuit. It took rain to upset the championship leader, who ultimately qualified 3rd.
With the rain, the qualifying format was reshuffled into a single 30-minute session, unlike the classic elimination format. Three red flags disrupted the session. Kamui Kobayashi (KCMG) had an accident at turn 15 after 7 minutes. After the restart, it was the turn of Ritomo Miyata (Team TOM'S) to stop at the side of the track, at turn 13.
On the French side, title challenger Sacha Fenestraz (Kondo Racing) was unable to seek the front lines and qualified 8th (+1″858). Giuliano Alesi (Team TOM'S) had another complicated session and will only start 16th (+3″378) at Fuji.
