Victim of an impressive fall 15 minutes from the end of P2, Pol Espargaró (GASGAS Factory Racing Tech3) was first stabilized directly on the track, then taken to the circuit medical center before being transported to the Faro hospital in order to undergo additional examinations.
A first medical assessment was issued at the end of the evening by Doctor Ángel Charte, the doctor of the MotoGP.
“Cervically and neurologically, everything is going very well. He didn't lose consciousness and we didn't have to intubate him.
His oxygen level is good, but he suffers from a fairly significant pulmonary contusion, the severity of which will have to be confirmed by CT scans and MRIs at Faro hospital.
He suffered a violent shock to his spine and is suffering from a pulmonary contusion which we will have to monitor closely.
Pol Espaegaro is conscious, alert and reacts well. He is currently sedated. He has no trouble moving his feet, legs, and arms, so there is no reason to worry about permanent spinal damage. »
Examinations carried out during the night confirmed this initial opinion with pulmonary trauma, a jaw fracture and the fracture of a dorsal vertebra.
All our thoughts are with Pol Espargaro to whom we wish a speedy recovery and a very quick return to the circuits.
