The first days of the French Grand Prix MotoGP seem to have finally been a full-scale rehearsal for what awaits us on Sunday! While Friday and Saturday were rather dry, with alternating sunshine and cloudy periods, Thursday was marked by a short but intense downpour in the afternoon. While it did not impact the smooth running of the weekend, since the MotoE practice sessions were not underway at that time, it showed that the weather in May at Le Mans can be unpredictable, and especially drench the Bugatti Circuit very quickly.
This is the same configuration we're heading towards this Sunday. While forecasts were rather pessimistic until the beginning of the week, with rain forecast all day, Météo-France is more reassuring. Reassuring, but not quite precise! The national meteorological service is talking about cloudy weather for Sunday, with possible showers in the afternoon, then thunderstorms in the evening. The temperature is expected to be 19°C.
It's only by checking weather radars that we realize how unpredictable the weather will be this Sunday. Showers are expected to circulate around the Bugatti circuit all day, some heavier than others. If they hit during the morning, the Grand Prix could start at 14 p.m. on a wet but drying track. A real headache in store for the drivers and their teams, but a great spectacle to come for the many spectators present on site and in their homes!
