Video. Aleix Espargaro stops his race... one lap too early!

Terrible mistake by Aleix Espargaro at the end of the Catalan Grand Prix. Second at the start of the last lap, the Spaniard cut his effort one lap too early! He finally came 5th.

Video. Aleix Espargaro stops his race… one lap too early!

It's a simple mistake that could cost the championship dearly. Aleix Espargaro had a great race during the Catalan Grand Prix. Starting from pole position, the Spaniard was second behind fabio quartararo at the start of the last lap.

While he was ahead of the two Pramac drivers to head towards a new podium in MotoGP, the Aprilia rider suddenly slowed down on the straight. The stage local, born in Granollers a few kilometers from the circuit, began to greet the crowd, while the others continued their efforts. If we initially thought it was a mechanical problem, it was in reality a gross error of judgment on the part of Espargaro, who thought the race was over!

Espargaro only reacted after around ten seconds, after being overtaken by Jorge Martin and Johann Zarco. The Aprilia rider finally reaccelerated in turn 3 to save his 5th place ahead of Luca Marini.

In the championship, it's a terrible blow for the Spaniard. With his 5th place, Espargaro only scores 11 points, compared to 25 for Quartararo who consolidates his position as leader in the standings with a 22-point lead.
