Acropolis – SS12: Sordo shows up, Lappi down

Dani Sordo scored his first Acropolis Rally scratch on SS12. Esapekka Lappi, 2nd overall at the start of the special, suffered a mechanical problem on his Yaris and had to stop.

A new victim of the Greek heat this Saturday afternoon! After Gus Greensmith on SS11, it's Esapekka Lappi's turn to suffer the cruel law of Rally de l’Acropole. Le Finlandais a été trahi par sa mécanique lors de l’ES12, dans ce qu’il semblerait être une panne au niveau de la pompe d’essence. Arrêté plusieurs fois sur la spéciale, le pilote Toyota est arrivé avec 8 minutes de retard sur le meilleur temps, décroché par Dani Sordo.

The Spaniard signed his first scratch of the rally with a time of 14'50″1, ahead of Ott Tänak (2nd, +1″7) and Elfyn Evans (3rd, +3″0). Thanks to Lappi's problems, Dani Sordo moved back to 3rd place and onto the provisional podium for the event. Good operation also for Ott Tänak who moves up to 2nd, behind his teammate Thierry Neuville (4e, +6″1). Gare aux consignes d’équipe chez Hyundai, alors que l’Estonien est mieux placé au championnat que le Belge… Pierre-Louis Loubet (6e, +10″2) retrouve le Top 5 mais pointe à plus d’une minute d’Elfyn Evans, ancré à la 4e place.
