- He will not equal Sébastien's record Loeb, the only driver to have won all the special stages of a rally during the Tour de Corse in 2005, but Kalle Rovanperä is not letting up. Quite the opposite: aware of his situation in the championship (6th with 31 points), the Finn will try to win everything this weekend in Gran Canaria, with the Super Sunday points in his sights. For the moment, his quest has started well: the rider Toyota set the best time on SS14 with a 1″2 lead over Sébastien Ogier, thus claiming his 13th special stage victory of the weekend. Kalle Rovanperä now has a 46″ lead over the Frenchman at the top of the Canary Islands Rally.
- There is better at Hyundai, since Thierry Neuville set the 4th time in the special, just 3 seconds behind Kalle Rovanperä. The Belgian can still claim a Top 3 finish in the Canary Islands: the reigning world champion is now just 5 seconds behindAdrien fourmaux in the general classification. For the moment, no team orders from Hyundai.
- This first special stage of the day was marked by an accident, that of Josh McErlean. The Irishman hit a safety barrier at the 5th kilometer after understeering with his Ford Puma. The driver M-Sport was forced to retire, the second in the Rally1 category after that of Sami Pajari on Saturday.
Josh McErlean out at 4.7km's into the first stage this morning! 😳⚠️
