- Kalle Rovanperä is on another planet this Friday morning. The Finn is the fastest driver in Gran Canaria and has secured a second scratch in as many special stages on this Rally of the Canary Islands. The double world champion was well ahead Sébastien Ogier (+6″7) and Elfyn Evans (+9″8) on this 15,2-kilometer course. Kalle Rovanperä now has a 15″8 lead over his French teammate in the general classification of the Spanish event.
- On this special stage, contested in rather unique conditions – with a mixture of thick fog and bright sunshine – Toyota confirmed that it was the team to beat in the Canary Islands. As in SS1, the Japanese firm scored a hat-trick in SS2 with its shock trio, Kalle Rovanperä, Sébastien Ogier and Elfyn Evans. Behind, Hyundai is still behind: Adrien fourmaux, the first driver of the South Korean team, set the 4th time, 11 seconds off the best time. Ott Tänak et Thierry Neuville, struggling on the roads of Gran Canaria, finished 14″6 and 15″3 behind Kalle Rovanperä respectively.
