If the premier category will again be sparse during the next 12 months with perhaps only 9 Rally1s on most rounds, the WRC2 should benefit from both large and good quality squads. Several pilots have already confirmed their plans such as Sami Pajari or Nikolay Gryazin. They have just been joined by Marco Bulacia.
The 22-year-old Bolivian has not raced since rally of Ypres (August 2022). To prepare for this event, he had competed in the Van Staden Rally the previous week in Belgium and had a violent accident. Despite his vertebrae in poor condition, he still took the start in Ypres, but then gave up because of the pain. Completely recovered, he will start the Monte-Carlo in a car from the Toksport team. The latter is not the only one to have received a copy of the new RS Rally2. The Orsak Rallysport team obtained its own and Erik Cais will use it. While he has been rallying since 2018, the 23-year-old former mountain biker will compete in his first WRC2 championship starting in Monte-Carlo. If he has been driving a Ford Fiesta Rally2 until now, being one of the rare competitors to succeed in shining at the wheel, he will therefore join the Skoda fold. After the Monte-Carl', Cais' program will include 6 meetings in WRC2 (Croatia, Portugal, Sardinia, Finland, Acropolis, Central Europe) and he plans several appearances in ERC (Fafe, Canary Islands, Liepaja, Rome, Barum). The announcements of these four drivers are just the beginning. Several other candidates (Jari Huttunen, Teemu Suninen, Yohan Rossel, Kajetan Kajetanowicz, etc.) should declare themselves soon. So far, all the contenders have chosen to race a Fabia RS Rally2 to the point where it looks like a one-make cup for the Czech manufacturer at the moment.
