- The Finns are at ease on this 2nd special of the Safari Rally. Kalle Rovanperä signed the first scratch this Friday in Kenya, ahead of her compatriot Esapekka Lappi (+0″9). The pilot Toyota, favored by an advantageous starting position (7th on the starting line), achieved the best time despite a slow puncture at the end of the special. A time that allows him to take the lead Rally from Kenya, 1″4 ahead of Ott Tänak to the general.
- Esapekka Lappi, winner of the last rally in Sweden, chose to only take a spare wheel on this first loop, enough to relieve him of around twenty kilos. The Finn leads a trio of Hyundai on this SS2, since he is ahead of Ott Tänak (+2″1) and Thierry Neuville (+2″6).
- Apart from Kalle Rovanperä, the other two Toyotas were much more discreet: Elfyn Evans, victim of a puncture at the end of the special, lost 11″8 on his teammate – and almost 10 seconds on his championship rival, Thierry Neuville – while Takamoto Katsuta is 9″9 behind Kalle Rovanperä on this 2nd special.
- The three Fords M-Sport bring up the rear, with a 7th beat for Adrien fourmaux (+13″9), far ahead of Grégoire Munster (+34″5) and Jourdan Serderidis (+1’20″0).
