Portugal – SS3: Rovanperä accelerates, problems for Katsuta and Loubet

Kalle Rovanperä took the scratch on SS3 of the Rally Portugal and moved closer to Ott Tänak in the overall standings. Takamoto Katsuta retired, while Pierre-Louis Loubet experienced a start of fire at the finish.

  • First scratch time of the day for Toyota and Kalle Rovanperä, who dominated SS3 Rally from Portugal.
  • With a time of 11'49″3, the Finn was ahead of Ott Tänak (+2″8) and Elfyn Evans (+4″1) on this 3rd special.
  • Thanks to this scratch, Kalle Rovanperä comes back to just 3 seconds behind Ott Tänak, while Dani Sordo is now 3rd, 3″6 behind the Estonian.
  • Takamoto Katsuta retired even before the start of SS3, suffering from an alternator problem.
  • Pierre-Louis Loubet conceded more than 16 seconds to Kalle Rovanperä, but the Frenchman suffered a problem with his Ford Puma at the finish. The pilot M-Sport had to trigger his fire extinguisher to put out a start of fire on his horse. The extent of the damage and consequences is still unknown.
