An unusual final day awaits the competitors on the Rally from Japan with two proper special stages to be run twice, interspersed with two Super Special Stages later in the morning. For this penultimate section of the rally, all the crews opted to start on hard tires.

Despite their off-road excursion yesterday, Oliver Solberg and Elliott Edmondson are back this morning and set the fastest time on SS15, 2,1 seconds ahead of Elfyn Evans – Scott Martin, still leading the overall standings, while Takamoto Katsuta – Aaron Johnston achieved the third best performance of the special stage, 4 tenths behind Evans.

By achieving "only" the fourth best time on this SS15, Sébastien Ogier Vincent Landais conceded a few seconds to their Welsh rival and are now 20,4 seconds behind Elfyn Evans and Scott Martin. Sami Pajari and Marko Salminen, although also beaten by their rivals Katsuta and Johnston, maintain third place by 21 seconds. In WRC2, the battle of the titans continues as well. Starting with a vengeance, Alejandro Cachón and Borja Rozada (Toyota GR Yaris Rally2) set the best time and are now 4,2 seconds behind Nikolay Gryazin – Konstantin Aleksandrov (Lancia Ypsilon Rally2 HF Integrale).
