- The day starts well for Hyundai in Portugal. Estonian Ott Tänak was the fastest in the second special stage this Friday morning. He beat two Toyota, those of Kalle Rovanperä, by 0,2″ and Elfyn Evans (at 2,8″), winner of the Super-special on Thursday evening. He took advantage of this to take the lead in the general classification, ahead of the two drivers from the Japanese team.
- On this fast and tricky special stage (14,59 km), not all Hyundai drivers were successful. For example, the Belgian Thierry Neuville, the reigning world champion, crashed. While his car was undamaged, he lost 12,3 seconds to his teammate. This left him in provisional 8th place overall.
