Eighteen years after the Dutchman Breijer, a second foreign competitor, the speedy Belgian Chris Van Woensel won on the roads of Champagne. Taking over from Quentin Giordano on SS2, who stormed off on his 208 T16, the driver of the original Mitsubishi Lancer WRC took command in front of the regulars of the event and confirmed his supremacy over the stages.

The fight for places of honor was more intense within a tumultuous quartet. The solid Bouchy had taken over, at the start of the 2nd stage, the runner-up position against Rebout who would soon also be a victim of his enthusiasm.

Registered for the championship, Beaubelique finally completed the podium despite a blunder in the final SS which was fatal to his direct opponent, J. Galpin with the Skoda R5. A final time which also caused the loss of Group N for Leduc, disrupted by the mechanics for the benefit of the young Baillière. Duchène achieved the double in the group F2000.
