At its last meeting, the Commission WRC did not only address the topic of the next technical regulations that will come into force in 2027. Under the chairmanship of Pernilla Solberg, the various working groups for the sporting and technical aspects, representatives of the manufacturers and those of the promoter considered in particular the subject relating to the supply of sustainable fuel.
While the situation seemed to be working out as P1 Performance Fuels had held the contract since 2022, everything was called into question after the rally from Sweden. On February 10, the German company was placed under administrative control due to payment defaults, and the FIA had to find an emergency solution so that the Kenya Safari could take place. The body had to pay customs duties so that the fuel could leave the port where it was stored and be transported to Naivasha for the event. Agreements were then signed with TotalEnergies for the Canary Islands and the rest of the season, but this solution is only valid for 2025.
Indeed, starting next year, a new supplier will be needed. A call for tenders has been launched for the period 2026-2028. Applications have been submitted. They are currently being analyzed by the WRC Commission before the final proposals are submitted for approval to the FIA World Council in June in Macau.
