At the Verstappen, it's not just the son, Max, who is competing this year. There's also the father, Jos, a former pilot of F1, which is competing in the full season of the European Rally Championship (ERC) at the wheel of a Skoda Fabia Rally2. Thus, from May 29 to 31, the experienced Dutchman was present in Sweden for the Rally from Scandinavia, counting for the third round of the ERC.
And the least we can say is that the Swedish event was cut short for the father of the four-time F1 world champion. Indeed, in the ninth special stage, he made a mistake and rolled over. While the 53-year-old driver and his co-drivers escaped unharmed, they unfortunately had to retire. This was even though their car was likely repairable.

"I think I came into the corner a little too fast and missed the apex, the inside of the corner. I was in the gravel, on the grass, and I couldn't turn.", Verstappen said from the official ERC website, he who was only competing in his third rally on gravel.
Verstappen: "Every accident should be a lesson, but this is typical here"
"The rear wheels went into the ditch and the car rolled over. It's something very common in this type of rally. From what I've seen on video, it happens a lot.", he continued. Although the damage was not that serious, since the roll bar was intact, the experienced pilot still preferred to stop there.
And this for several reasons, as he explained to the official ERC website. As Rally Poland is fast approaching and I didn't feel very good in the car on this particular rally, we preferred to check everything instead of continuing. Every accident should serve as a lesson, but this is typical here.", assured Jos Verstappen.
