After his big scare in SS3 Rally from Germany, Thierry Neuville regains color by setting the best time in the SS5 at the end of the first loop. The Belgian is ahead in 5’15″9 Sébastien Ogier (Ford) by three tenths and Ott Tänak (Ford) 2″8.
Andreas Mikkelsen (Citroën) concède 3″5 sur Neuville et sept dixièmes sur Tänak, et conserve ainsi les commandes de la course avec 4″1 de marge sur Tänak et 5″6 sur Ogier. Derrière ce trio, Elfyn Evans place sa Ford Fiesta en quatrième position à 14″8 devant Neuville à 17″5. Les Toyota Yaris de Lappi et Hänninen suivent au classement devant la Citroën C3 de Craig Breen, à égalité avec Hänninen à 31″5 du leader. Hayden Paddon (Hyundai) pointe au neuvième rang à 1’18″6.
Jari-Matti Latvala (Toyota), on the other hand, lost big in this last sector of the first loop this Friday, since, victim of engine problems on his Yaris, the Finn lost more than 1'26" on Neuville. Fifth overall before this SS5, the former Volkswagen driver fell to 10th in the event standings.
