While he was fighting against Ott Tänak (Toyota) pour la tête du Rally from Argentina, the Norwegian lost around 40 seconds after suffering a puncture on SS6. The leader of the event signed the scratch by completing the 16,65km of Las Bajadas – Villa del Dique in 8'43''4.
Esapekka Lappi (Toyota) also suffered a puncture and finished almost half a minute behind the reference time.
Kris Meeke (Citroën) was closest to the Estonian with 8”6 behind. Thierry Neuville (Hyundai) suit à une dizaine de secondes devant Craig Breen (Citroën), Elfyn Evans (M-Sport), Dani Sordo (Hyundai) et Teemu Suninen (M-Sport).
The time of Sébastien Ogier (M-Sport) is still not confirmed.
The crews opted for different tire choices for the second pass: the Citroën and M-Sport drivers stick with this morning's choice of 5 soft tires. On the other hand, Neuville and Mikkelsen preferred 5 hard, Sordo 4 hard and 1 soft, Tänak 2 hard and 3 soft and Lappi 2 hard and 4 soft.
