Kris Meeke et Jari-Matti Latvala (Toyota) ont signé le scratch en bouclant la première spéciale du Rally du Chili, les 17,11km d’El Pinar, en 11’35’’9. Elfyn Evans (M-Sport) a été le plus proche en suivant à 2 secondes, Sébastien Ogier (Citroën) following the Welshman half a second after going wide after a bridge. Ott Tänak (Toyota) got trapped in the same place and ended up almost 3 seconds behind his teammates.
Thierry Neuville (Hyundai) a échoué à 3’’6 de la référence en balayant la spéciale. Le Belge finit devant ses coéquipiers Andreas Mikkelsen et Sébastien Loeb. Teemu Suninen (M-Sport) finished a dozen seconds behind. Esapekka Lappi (Citroën) has already lost around twenty seconds after a slight exit without consequences for his C3 WRC.
