French gravel rally champion in 2008, Thomas Privé discovered the world championship this weekend in Portugal. Shortly before the end of the second special stage contested on Friday (SS3), the Ile-de-France driver hit an embankment at high speed.

“I passed the left turn in 4th but then I couldn't continue with the right curve which I thought would be as fast. In fact, I've never turned right! This is a mistake due to inexperience. I should have performed more during the first round to confirm my scores. This very technical special stage was the first during the reconnaissance. »

The left front suspension of the Mitsubishi is in poor condition. His team hopes to be able to repair overnight so that he can start again on Saturday morning in Super Rally.

Xavier Villepreux, his teammate, also encountered serious mechanical problems on SS5 when the gearbox completely refused to work.
